“Leadership is the process of influencing other to achieve group or organizational goals” (Williams & McWilliams, 2010, p.277). Tim Cook started working for apple in early 1998 as corporation's chief operating officer, and in August 2011 he became the CEO. (Grimm, French, & Pak, 2014). Tim is a frugal and generous person, yet he does not have many friends, never socialized and rarely talked about his personal life. ( Yarow, 2014)
Tim cook applies his leadership traits of Desire to lead, Emotional stability, self-confidence. Can be seen that Cook leads employees perfectly by running weekly meetings that could last 5-6 hours as he goes over every single detail. (Yarow, 2014). Tim shows his self-confidence when the moment after Steve jobs passed away, he declared “I want you to be confident that Apple is not going to change," (Tobak, 2014, introduction, para. 4) There is a time when the company stock had lost $200 billion of market cap from its peak, but Cook instead of being panic, he performed the biggest share buyback program in history. (Tobak, 2014)
Leadership styles that Tim has are Participative and Achievement oriented leadership. He always listens to his employees about their opinions and voices through weekly meetings. Tim cook also thinks that the company needs thinkers who can think out of the box, “We want diversity of thought,” (Morello, n.d., 4th list, para. 2). Therefore he expects great things produces by people who can express their own ideas.
Now it is known that apple is able to grow greatly because of its great leader.
